This is what
you've been
training for.

Three days. Eight workout stations. Running. Strength. Endurance. And one question.

Arena Race – The Main Event brings HYROX-style racing to Hawke's Bay for a high-energy indoor fitness event built around performance, atmosphere and community.

Whether you have worked your way through the Arena Sim Series, are preparing for an official HYROX event, or have decided it is time to take on something new: this is your Main Event.

You do not need to call yourself a HYROX athlete to enter. Gym members. Runners. Functional fitness athletes. HYROX competitors. Training partners. First-timers. And athletes who need the challenge scaled to make it work for them. Choose the format that suits where you are now.

The challenge

Run. Station. Repeat. Eight times.

Arena Race combines running with eight functional workout stations. You move between running and workout stations in a race-style format designed to test your strength, endurance and aerobic capacity.

Divisions

Choose your challenge

There is more than one way to take on the Main Event. Enter Solo, Doubles or Relay; choose Half or Full Simulation where available; or enter our Scaled Division if you need movement or load scaling.

Solo or Doubles

Full Simulation

8 × 1 km runs + 8 workout stations

The complete simulation experience. Designed for athletes ready to put their training to the test, establish a serious performance benchmark or prepare for an official HYROX event.

Solo or Doubles

Half Simulation

8 × 500 m runs + 8 workout stations

The same event atmosphere and eight functional workout stations, with half the running distance. A great option for first-timers, developing athletes or anyone who wants to take on the Main Event without committing to the full running distance.

Doubles

Half or Full Simulation

Take on the Half or Full Simulation with a training partner.

  • Men's Doubles
  • Women's Doubles
  • Mixed Doubles
Teams of four

Relay

Full Simulation only

Only one team member competes at a time. That athlete must complete their full allocated run and workout station before tagging the next team member. Each athlete completes a full run-and-station section across the event.

  • Women's Relay
  • Mixed Relay
Scaled Division

Scaled.
Timed.
Yours.

Want to take on the challenge but need some movements, loads or distances scaled because of a mobility limitation? You can.

Our Scaled Division allows athletes to complete the same overall event experience with recognised modifications where required. You can enter Scaled as Solo or Doubles.

The difference is that agreed movements or loads can be scaled to suit your needs. Athletes competing Scaled will not be “no-repped” for completing an agreed alternative movement, but Scaled results will not qualify for competitive placings.

Your timing chip still starts. The clock still matters. You still cross the same finish line. You still get your result.

Planned movement scaling

We intend to offer one or two recognised alternatives for each station. These will be confirmed in the Athlete Guide.

Standard movementScaled alternative may include
RunningWalking the same distance
Sled PushReduced load, down to Women's competition weight
Sled PullReduced load, down to Women's competition weight
Burpee Broad JumpsStep-back burpee with step or shortened jump
RowScaling discussed with athlete where required
Farmer's CarryReduced load, down to Women's competition weight
Sandbag LungesReduced load and/or reduced lunge depth
Wall BallsWomen's competition weight and target height and/or reduced squat depth

Need something slightly different? Talk to us. When entering, select Scaled Division and nominate any modifications you know you will need. The event team can confirm these before racing.

Scaled athletes race within the relevant Solo or Doubles programme for their entry. Your exact wave will be confirmed with your final event information.

You've got something to train for.

Maybe you are chasing a time. Maybe you want to beat your Arena Sim Series baseline. Maybe you have never done anything like this before. Maybe you need to do it a little differently. That doesn't make the challenge any less yours.

It does not matter where you start. What matters is that you start.

Try it→ Train for it→ Find out what you're capable of
